Job Title: Dies Design Engineer (Extrusion Process)
Job Purpose
The Dies Designer Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, modifying, and improving aluminium extrusion dies to achieve the required profile dimensions, quality, production efficiency, and die life. The role requires close coordination with Production, Quality Assurance, CNC, Wire Cut, EDM, and Maintenance departments to ensure smooth manufacturing and continuous process improvement.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Development
- Design aluminium extrusion dies for new profile development according to customer drawings and specifications.
- Prepare detailed 2D and 3D die drawings using CAD software.
- Develop die assemblies including feeders, ports, bridges, mandrels, bearings, backers, bolsters, and related tooling.
- Review customer drawings and assess manufacturability before die design.
Engineering & Technical
- Calculate bearing lengths, metal flow balance, extrusion ratio, tongue ratio, and other design parameters.
- Optimize die designs to improve profile quality, dimensional accuracy, and extrusion speed.
- Recommend suitable die steel materials and heat treatment requirements.
- Ensure all die designs comply with company standards and engineering specifications.
Production Support
- Coordinate with CNC Milling, Wire Cut, EDM, Heat Treatment, and Die Assembly teams during die manufacturing.
- Provide technical support during first trial extrusion and resolve die-related issues.
- Modify existing die designs based on trial results and production feedback.
- Investigate extrusion defects such as twisting, bending, surface defects, dimensional variation, and flow imbalance.
Continuous Improvement
- Analyze die performance and recommend improvements to increase die life.
- Reduce die correction time and improve first-time approval rates.
- Maintain die design records, revision history, and engineering documentation.
- Participate in productivity improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure die designs meet quality standards and customer requirements.
- Follow company safety procedures and engineering best practices.
- Maintain confidentiality of design data and intellectual property.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent.
Additional certification in CAD/CAM software will be an advantage.
Experience
3–8 years of experience in aluminium extrusion die design.
Experience in hollow, semi-hollow, and solid profile die design.
Hands-on experience with extrusion die manufacturing processes.
Required Technical Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or similar CAD software.
- Strong understanding of aluminium extrusion technology.
- Knowledge of die manufacturing processes including CNC Milling, Wire Cut, EDM, Grinding, Polishing, and Heat Treatment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
- Understanding of aluminium alloy behaviour during extrusion.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions
Manufacturing and engineering office environment.
Frequent coordination with Tool Room, Production, Quality, and Maintenance departments.
